Playing With Bleach!

Yep I let my 5yo play with bleach. Under close supervision though.

While trying to figure out what to make for Fathers Day for daddy I came across this pin. I already follow her blog but this post was posted before I began following her so I hadn’t noticed it before. Ashley Campbell has SO MANY wonderful ideas with great photography to document them. I love her blog.

You can get the full instructions on her blog.

I had the hardest time EVER finding freezer paper in SF. I didn’t even know what it was until now. I called 4 grocery stores in the city and none carried them (or even knew what they were!) So I ordered it via Amazon of course!

Well after I finally had all my supplies, I printed the letters, traced them on the freezer paper, cut and ironed them on the shirts.

I filled a spray bottle and a water gun with bleach.

Made sure the kid (and myself) had the rubber gloves on

Now comes the fun part. First I used the spray bottle to spray around the letters to make sure there would be a nice defined shape once it was bleached.

Then I let him my future all-star spray till his heart’s content

Front and back.

Since it IS bleach I don’t recommend letting a young child who is not able to follow instructions closely yet work on this project.

After the spraying, I let it sit for about 5-10 minutes longer. It was an overcast day so it didn’t bleach the color as quickly as it would have had the sun been shining down.

I rinsed then threw them in the washer under the regular cycle. Most of the freezer came off in the wash. I peeled what was left and tossed them in the dryer.

And here is daddy and his boy with their new shirts on Fathers Day morning.

More action shots of the shirts at Del Mar beach later that day

I really love how they turned out. They look so trendy and cute at the same time.

Since I now have a whole roll of freezer paper I plan to do this with star wars themed cut-outs on maybe some black shirts. And we’ll have to make some for us girls too next time! :)

Sweep!

We hit the sunny ballpark this past weekend with some friends. It was a gorgeous evening and we had seats in the sun for most of the game which kept us nice and warm on such a windy evening.

The kids did pretty well for most of the game.

Love the orange baby legs? :)

Since she is always mistaken for a boy when I bring her to the game (I have not bought any pink giants gear for her) I decided to put her in a skirt this time.
I just adore watching her flounce to and from me in her little outfit. I still can’t get over the fact that she’s walking already!

It was difficult to focus on the game with both kids and friends around this time but we had fun nevertheless. One of the highlights was Lou Seal making an appearance in our section!
We love Lou Seal!!

We left when the babe hit bedtime and made it clear she was ready.

I love happy days like these at the ballpark. Especially when we SWEEP! :) Final Score 3-1 Giants!

Crash Hot Potatoes

For dinner one night I decided to grill (read pan-fry since I’m too busy to go downstairs to figure out the grill when Grizz isn’t home) some steak for dinner. Instead of making rice (us Asians need rice with everything) I thought I’d try out another Pinterest find – Crash Hot Potatoes! OMG looks so good right? The original post for it can be found at The Pioneer Woman.

Simple ingredients I already have on hand. My kind of recipe.

Small Potatoes
Olive Oil to drizzle
Sea Salt
Parsely
Ground Pepper

While your potatoes are boiling chop the parsley or other herb of your choice

Drizzle oil generously over your cookie sheet and get your potatoes ready to be smashed

Smash them somewhat flat and sprinkle the parsley and salt (lots of it) all over

Bake for 20-25 minutes at 45 degrees. I think I will broil mine the last 5 minutes or so to get that crisp crunchy top next time.

Serve beside steak and a vegetable. It was absolutely delicious. And most importantly – SIMPLE!

Vacation Favorites – OC

The boys caught some nasty bug and were violently ill on our way back. We’ve been recovering and resting all weekend. I dove into the vacation pictures some more. There are over a thousand of them. One of my goals is to be more selective about what I shoot so I’m not spending so much time deleting after I upload. Sigh… I’m still learning! :)

Here are a few I love from the OC.

Playing with the 24-70mm 2.8 with shots of edamame

Representing orange and black in SoCal

Building Giants minifigures. This is supposed to be Cody Ross :)

Watching my beautiful happy god-daughter run, jump and play.

Watching my own daughter wander off every chance she gets

Swimming and splashing in the pool

Man that girl can eat a pizza! I still cut Rex’s up for him.

Learning to eat lollipops as big as her head and unscrewing water bottles

One of daddy’s gifts for fathers day. It involved me hammering holes into pennies on the cold garage floor. (I’ll have more deets on his gifts in a separate post)

Ok I love this shot cos it so screams upper-middle class OC family to me :)

I have SO MANY of these two god-siblings playing. They loved every minute of their time together. And surprisingly there was NO FIGHTING.

Happy Monday and have a great week ahead everyone!

Quick Favorites

All us four are home safe and sound. Three are worn out and cranky. Two caught an awful stomach bug. One to take care of them all.

It was a wonderful trip and we had such a fun time but I am happy to be home for sure. It was Jack-Jack’s longest car ride. Ever. She has not let me out of her sight since we stepped through the front door. I managed to work on a handful of shots before giving in to sleep after the Giant victory.

Here are a few of my favorites so far.

Cheesy photographer shirts I need to get for myself

Rex’s new Captain Rex flip-flops getting lots of action in supposedly-sunny SoCal weather

Before boarding the USS Midway

Jack-Jack exploring the vast runway of the USS Midway

Umm… he thinks he’s hiding from us here. I worry about this child sometimes.

Strolling Harbor Village in beautiful sunset light

When you have kids, you can’t miss the carousel rides

Vacations are always fun but I’m always happy to come home to you San Francisco. We’ve missed you. Cold foggy summers and all.

So Much Fun…

… We’re staying a little longer!

I’ll be back to more detailed blog posts next week. In the meantime just random shots from our travels.

Jack-jack got her very first DOLL! It’s really more of a chew toy since she seems to be teething again. But I decided to get her a girly-chew toy for once. I don’t think she really cares still.

Rex christened her Cross-Legs.

What fun is eating your fruit if you can’t catapult them into your mouth?

Now back to shopping. Gotta get us matching SOCKS!

Yay for the iPhone camera and its photography and mobile blogging apps!

CrazyJoy – Comparison

This week’s CrazyJoy challenge is Comparison.
Check out Anna and Lesley’s weekly CrazyJoy Challenge

recipe for crazy

We are traveling this week. Early one morning before the kids woke and I was still laying in our comfy hotel bed, I thought of an idea I could photograph on the road. So here’s my submission :)

The World Champions San Francisco Giants.

All others pale in comparison.
