So, do you want to see how I made the fringed streamer backdrop for my “Food” themed shoot?
I had seen this post on the Oh Happy Day blog awhile back. So pretty yeah? I bookmarked it for future use. I finally found a reason to make them last week!
Start with some crepe paper. They’re quite inexpensive at $1.80 each.

I worked on this on a dark and rainy day so my light wasn’t the greatest. Plus my craft table was still covered with Lego Police Officers and Station!

I trimmed about 2″ pieces off for each streamer and then cut the fringe toward the center of each side. I cut too close to the center on one of the streamers and it ended up falling apart when I pulled it open, so be careful not to cut too close.

I used two shades of yellow and one orange for this backdrop.

I carefully unfolded each one and hung them from the top of the curtain.

The babe was asleep so I used her baby doll for test shots ![]()

And I managed to salvage the one streamer that fell apart by throwing the pieces on the cuties she was eating! haha!

It was like a party in my living room for about an hour! It sure brightened up our living room on that rainy day!

Hi…I love this idea!! I’m planning my daughter’s 10th birthday party and this looks nice a great (and inexpensive) way to make a backdrop. I just have a question, you mentioned cutting off a 2″ piece, when you unroll it, how long was it?
I would like to have them hanging from the ceiling coming down to the table so I wasn’t sure how long these come out to. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Jessica,
The 2 inch piece I cut makes the width of the streamer. I cut the 2 inch piece from the still-folded crepe paper. Does that make sense? When I unfolded it, the streamers were about 10 feet in length (and 2 inches wide). You can just trim it to whatever length you want after you unfold it.
Hope that helps! I’d love to see pictures when you’re done!
