Summer time means LOTS of daytime hours to fill to keep both my kids busy. Their 4.5 year age difference can both be a blessing as well present lots of challenges. My son is pretty great with his sister (most of the time!) and is able to help me watch out for her all day. However, since they are opposite genders and far enough apart in age, they are rarely able to enjoy the same activities or excursions we go on. Every now and then, I get a sitter to watch my baby girl while Rex and I enjoy a date together. Just him and me.

A few days ago we went on our date.

It was awesome. It’s rare I get to spend a whole day with him without any interruptions. It felt like the days when he was a toddler before his sister was born and it was always just him and me. I miss those days.

We went to the movies! I wanted to watch Brave. He requested Madagascar 3. *sigh* The kid LOVES him his slapstick comedy. Madagascar 3 it was. It turned out to be hilarious! Guess there is a tiny chance he gets his love for slapstick from his mama… It’s a pretty tiny one though.

We caught the first showing of the day so after it was over we still had the rest of the day to spend together. So we decided to go bowling!

We hit up the new Lucky Strike lanes near the ballpark. Man it was SO MUCH FUN. We played 6 games and stayed for almost 3 hours!

I think we could have gone longer but we’d left our baby girl long enough without us. So after a quick photo booth shot, we wrapped it up and called it a day. I loved this day. The conversations, the quality time. So many things I realize I miss out with my son just because I’m being pulled in another direction all day. I know we can’t do this all the time, but I’ve set up the rest of our summer so we CAN do this once every week or two. He is growing so fast (I know, I know. I say that a lot. But if you have kids you can totally relate) and I cherish these days I get to keep him close to me still when he still wants to talk to me about anything and everything.
